If you've seen our last big announcement post on Instagram, you'll know we've got some BIG BIG plans for 2020. This post is gonna have all the juicy details you'll need to know PLUS ways to get involved with these events!
1. FILM FESTIVAL
January 31st + February 1st
Friday: short films
Saturday: local short film contest winner + longer short film or full length film
Our first (and to our knowledge, Sydney's first) film festival! We've done a lot for the music and visual artist communities in the CBRM, but we've been ignoring the film community completely! We want to give a chance to local teens to create a short film that will be shown Saturday night before the full-length film/longer short films. We're hoping to launch the contest early in January, and will be looking for volunteers for pre-screening to choose the winner!
We want a really good venue for this event- if you know of a relatively cost-effective venue capable of screening films, let us know! We'll also be looking for a couple volunteers to make sure everything runs smoothly!
2. GIRLS TO THE FRONT FESTIVAL
March 6th + 7th
Friday: back to back screenings of "The Punk Singer" and "Bad Reputation"
Saturday: open mic and all ages show
Girls to the Front is back and we want to make it bigger! Instead of 1 show, we've expanded it to 2 days, 2 music events, and 1 double-feature film screening! This event is an amazing opportunity for female musicians in the community and we're hoping it inspires the next generation of young girls to grab an instrument and start a band!
As it goes with any show, we'll need bands! If you're in or will be in a female-fronted or all girl band in March, let us know if you'd be interested in playing! We'll also be on the hunt for volunteers!
3. GUILLOPALOOZA 2020
June 12th, 13th, and 14th
Friday: open mic and all ages show
Saturday: art events and an all ages show
Sunday: acoustic all ages show
The big one. The expensive one. Guillopalooza is coming back for 2020! We're proposing an open mic, various art events, and 3 all ages shows. We need bands, and most importantly, VOLUNTEERS. Trying to run multiple events alone is super-duper hard, so we want help (please!)! Since it's the Biggest Event We Do, we'll obviously have to do some fundraising events (all ages shows, y'know, fun stuff).
If you or your band would be interested in playing Guillopalooza 2020, let us know!
We're going to need all the help we can get (volunteer-wise and funding-wise) with these events.
